The Economic Development Division’s Community team works with residents, Tribes, businesses and local organizations to support initiatives that strengthen communities and local economies across the county. Through community planning, events, tourism promotion and the strategic development of public assets, we help build a resilient regional economy where people can live well, work successfully and experience the best of Humboldt County.

Collaboration is Our Strength

Our work begins with collaboration. We partner with communities throughout Humboldt County to develop strategies, plans and initiatives that reflect local priorities while advancing regional opportunities. Through community engagement and partnership building, we help shape projects that support sustainable economic growth and long-term prosperity. This work includes community-based economic development planning, regional strategy development and implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).

We also support events that bring people together and highlight what makes Humboldt unique. By partnering with local organizations and regional stakeholders, we help support community festivals, cultural celebrations, industry events and regional conferences that activate public spaces, celebrate local culture and contribute to local economic activity.

Promoting Humboldt

Tourism is another important part of Humboldt County’s economy. Known for its extraordinary landscapes and authentic experiences, the region attracts visitors from around the world. Working with regional partners, the Economic Development Division helps promote Humboldt as a destination where people can explore redwood forests, experience coastal communities, enjoy outdoor recreation and connect with local culture. These efforts help support small businesses, hospitality, arts, agriculture and recreation across the county.

Aviation Development and Regional Connectivity

The division also works to support aviation development and strengthen regional connectivity through Humboldt County’s airports. These facilities are important public assets that help connect our communities to the rest of the state and beyond. Our work includes identifying economic opportunities tied to airport facilities and exploring compatible commercial and industrial uses on airport property that can generate non-aviation revenue and help ensure the long-term sustainability of county airports.
