Outdoor Equity Program

The Outdoor Equity Grants Program (OEP) improves the health and wellness of Californians through new educational and recreational activities, service learning, career pathways and leadership opportunities that strengthen a connection to the natural world. OEP increases the ability of residents in underserved communities to participate in outdoor experiences within their community, at state parks and other public lands.

Participants visit local destinations in Eureka, Arcata and Trinidad and receive hands-on learning opportunities with instruction in arts, science and technology that connects to nature experiences and environmental stewardship. Participants learn about topics such as tidepools, coastal sea birds, native plants, ecosystems and historical and cultural uses of the land while visiting places like Sue-Meg State Park and Village, Trinidad Head and Trinidad State Beach, Arcata Natural History Museum, Arcata Marsh, Eureka Waterfront Trail, Sequoia Park Zoo and Skywalk and more.

This program is funded by the Outdoor Equity Grants Program, created through AB 209 and administered by California State Parks, Office of Grants and Local Services.
