Problem Oriented Policing Leads to Three Arrests

On the morning of June 15, deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Patrol Division executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 1900 block of Elmwood Place, McKinleyville. The operation was initiated in response to multiple community complaints regarding suspected illegal drug activity at the property.

During the search, deputies discovered drug paraphernalia and a small quantity of methamphetamine. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals, who were charged as follows:

Brian Mitchell, 45, of McKinleyville:

  • Maintaining a place for unlawful drug activity—H&S 11366
  • Possession of a stolen vehicle—PC 496(d)(a) 

Michael Offutt, 32, of McKinleyville:

  • Being present where controlled substances are used—H&S 11365(a) 

Dana Hawkins, 41, of McKinleyville:

  • Being present where controlled substances are used—H&S 11365(a)
