Assessments continue following the 7.0 M earthquake that struck offshore of Humboldt County this morning.

The National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer Alaska issued a tsunami warning for much of the northwestern California coast shortly following the earthquake. As soon as it was clear that no residual waves were likely, the tsunami warning was cancelled. There is no current tsunami threat to Humboldt County.

No earthquake-related injuries have been reported at this time.

Earthquake damage assessments are ongoing throughout Humboldt County with no major earthquake-related damages reported so far.

Report Damages

If you or your business were affected by the earthquake, please report damages to the Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services (OES) by filling out the 2024 December Earthquake form.

This form is meant to help Humboldt County OES assess the level of damage sustained by the community. Financial or other individual assistance is not coordinated or provided through this damage reporting process.

Be Prepared

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and be prepared for aftershocks. The U.S. Geological Survey currently estimates that the likelihood of another 7.0 M earthquake is less than 1%, however it is estimated that there is a 53% chance of an earthquake in the 5.0 M ranges and a 7% likelihood of a 6.0 M over the next week.
